Fowey Christmas Market
Fowey Christmas Market
What’s it all about?
A weekend of festive entertainment, food and drink along with plenty of opportunities to pick up some great Christmas gifts.
What happens?
Beginning on the Friday, there’s a BBQ on the seafront accompanied by festive music. Father Christmas arrives in style by boat to meet local children and then leads a procession through the town ending up outside the church where the town’s Christmas lights will be switched on at around 7pm after which the evening continues with a Hog Roast nearby. Saturday morning sees the opening of the market where you’ll find lots of traditional and Cornish traders complementing Fowey’s trendy boutiques and art galleries. The Town Hall is home to smaller traders with a very local feel, including many of the Fowey River Crafts group. There will be choirs, bands and other entertainers in the streets and in and out of the pubs. Christmas Praise begins outside the parish church at 4.30pm accompanied by a brass band.
How can you take part?
In the main marquee on the Town Quay check out the locally made food, drink and crafts while in the Town Hall you’ll find handmade cushions, slate clocks, driftwood Christmas trees and local watercolour prints. Wander the town’s narrow street and browse the varied mix of clothes boutiques, delis and gift shops, many of which will be offering special discounts. In the evening the festive entertainment continues with many pubs hosting live music. Soak up the atmosphere and make Christmas shopping a joy rather than a trial!
